What kinds of damage can it fix?
Scratches, creases, small tears, dust, water marks and color that has faded or gone yellow. Where a chunk of the picture is missing it will fill the gap plausibly, but nothing can recover what the negative never had.
Will faces stay accurate?
Yes. It restores rather than reinvents, so a face keeps its identity. A badly degraded face comes back as a faithful cleanup, not as a different person.
How should I digitize the original?
Flat, evenly lit, no glare, as large as your scanner or phone will give you. The more of the original you capture, the more there is to repair.
